TASK
If virtually every piece of plastic that has ever been produced is still around today, and we are producing more plastic each day, something has to be done about it, and fast! You and your group have been chosen by the Vedruna Foundation to create an advertisement on the risks of plastic pollution.
Your mission is to design a campaign, to educate the public on the impacts of plastics on the environment and highlight a potential solution to the problem. The thinking is that the public needs to be aware that something can be done about the plastic pollution problem, but that action needs to be taken quickly, by all informed citizens.
Your advertisement will be in a poster format and must include the problem about plastic pollution, with a focus on the impact on the ocean and marine or human life. It must also highlight one or more potential solutions to the problem.
OBJECTIVES
Your team has been selected for your knowledge about the science behind plastic pollution. Your advertisement should share with the public some of that knowledge. You need to get their attention and educate them quickly, truthfully and effectively. You need to make them think. You need to give them an action plan. Your poster should have each of the following sections:
1. The Problem. What is the problem with plastics in the environment? Where do plastics come from? Where are they going? What problems are they causing and why? There are many stories to tell here. Your group needs to decide on your message. Will you focus on the effect of plastics on the environment? On their impact on humans? On the increasing density of plastic trash on the planet? Remember, an effective message communicated this using evidence to support claims!
2. The Solution. You need to give people some hope and stir them to take action. What can they do? Be specific, be concise and focus on the potential effect of specific actions that individuals can take.
EXTRA TASK
Three posters-same design: Once you have finished the poster you have to deliver it in the three languages you talk: Spanish, Catalan and English.
Bear in mind that your message must be equally impressive in the three languages.
